Principal harpist of the Phoenix Symphony from 1998-2001, Andrea Thiele is a native of Germany who received her diploma and artist degree with honors at the Hochschule fur Musik, München. She also holds a Master of Music Degree from Yale University. She has won numerous competitions and scholarships in Germany and the United States. She was principal harpist at the Staatskapelle Schwerin from 1994-1998 and played with the orchestras of the Hamburgische Staatsoper, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Münchner Philharmoniker and as soloist with the Polish Chamber Orchestra, Warsaw Symphony, Yale Philharmonia, Phoenix Symphony, Orquestra Sinfonia Nacional of Mexico City. She recorded at various European Broadcast Corporations as well as two Solo-CD's in 1998 and 2000. With one of her chamber music groups she performed at the World Harp Congress 1999 in Prague. Andrea Thiele resides with her husband Christoph Thiele, Professor for Mathematics at UCLA; and her children Felix, Annika, and Dominik in Los Angeles.

Weddings and events

I have worked as professional harpist for 12 years and played events all over Germany and the US. My major repertoire is classical music, but I also play Broadway and Musical songs. For large events I use an amplifier. I do perform as soloist, but also with instruments such as flute, violin, cello or others. Teaching

I have been teaching the harp for 12 years. Three of my former students became professional harpists themselves. I teach the lever harp and the concert harp. Harps to rent or buy are available. Harp lessons for children or adults. My studio is located in the heart of West Los Angeles, close to I-10 and I-405.

Repertoire

Harp Solo: My repertoire includes music from the 16th to the 21st century.

Solo concerto: I have played harp concertos from baroque to contemporary, including several first performances. Works by Dittersdorf, Händel, Boieldieu, Mozart, Debussy, Gliere, Ginastera, Rodrigo, Henze, Stallcop.

Chamber music: I am a very active chamber musician and have played with violin, viola, cello, string quartett, flute, bassoon, oboe, clarinet, trombone, french horn, and voice. Groups from 2 to seven instruments.

Orchestra: After playing 7 years as principal harpist in two different professional orchestras, I have performed all major repertoire of opera, ballet, and symphonic works.

Harps to rent and buy

I am the manager of Harps Unlimited Int., Los Angeles Branch. We rent and sell Aoyama, Camac, Pratt Harps and also used Lyon and Healy, Salvi and Tripplett harps. We also carry accessories such as benches, wheels, full string set, harp dolly.
